Is it being lazy or being efficient?

Today I managed to do a weeks worth of cleaning in one day. I was recording in a voice message to my mum what I did today.. and it was a lot (imo)..!

Woke up. Had breakfast. Then took the first load of laundry of undergarments downstairs. waited half an hour or so then took the next load, work clothes -on delicate mode- and put the undergarments in the dryer. Repeat x5. As I was hanging up the work clothes I get a call from my Aunty who was checking to see if I was alright…

After the call I try to do some study.. but I am hungry again :(. So it’s time to cook from all the left over ingredients I bought last week! So today and tmoros menu consists of frozen eel (soo delicious), frozen fishballs, frozen mixed veggies ( so colourful), fresh bokchoy x3 (coz its cheaper), 2 onions, half a garlic, half a box of smooth tofu, left over noodles…and voila! 4 or so meals are done. It tastes good too. You can’t really go wrong with these ingredients. I left of mess after cooking (and eating) as per usual.

So I started wiping down the kitchen bench.. then I realised the floor was dirty.. so I got out the good old two in one mixed head mop.. sprayed some disinfectant and water. Well, one thing led to another… I had the spray out already.. should I just clean my toilet and shower today instead of Sunday? It means tmoro I can just relax… hmmm anyways. So I ended quickly cleaning the bathroom too.. I don’t think I did as thorough as the week before.. but I’ll survive🤣🤣🤣 always feels sooo nice to have a clean toilet, clean clothes, and clean kitchen bench. My sink is still full of dishes tho 🤣🤣🤣…

Some of my colleagues are horrified to hear how I only clean once a week…but hey I live on my own and the mess is my own. If I can live with it, then it’s fine right? As long as no one else is affected 🤣🤣🤣imho.

Doing Laundry in a shared apartment complex takes a full day!

As the title may suggest, I did my laundry today. I was thinking of making Sunday the day of laundry and of cleaning once I start working. I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all…It is ideal to do laundry during the day time here…BECAUSE the light in the laundry room is BROKEN. Dodgy AF. Oh, how life would be easier if I had my own washing machine and dryer in my room…BUT ANYWAY I’ve signed a 6-month lease and moving would be a pain.

So I have to run up and down the stairs checking on my washing every 30 minutes or so…As it’s my first time using a front loader…I didn’t realise how small inside was! Our washing machine at home is a top loader and fits heaps and heaps of clothes! I can wash all my clothes at once..however…because this machine is quite small…I had to separate my washing into two batches…Then there was small slot on the slide which said “DETERGENT” and the other “SOFTENER”…cool I have both…I looked at the bottle for instructions on how to use it…they said 50ml cap and then others said capfull…HOW DO I EVEN KNOW WHAT 50mls is?!! I YOLO and put about half.

I wasn’t sure what mode to put the washing on…so many options…I can even choose to clean the machine, bedding, eco…delicates..what if I have a mixture of everything!?? A friend on the phone suggested I do “COLOURS”..wash time? TWO HOURS and that wasn’t the longest one either. I shrugged and tried pressing a few buttons to try get it to start…finally it started making some noise and I left.

TWO HOURS LATER…

Alright finally…I can put it in the dryer..unfortunately due to my clumsiness..I may have dropped a few pieces of clothing on the floor as I made this transition. I am not familiar with dryers…we’ve never had one at home…as my parents said, “WASTE OF MONEY JUST HANG IT IN THE SUN”…But it’s Melbourne…it’s like cold and rainy almost every day :(… There is a dial and it looks like you can only turn it one way…it goes from 0 to 150mins (I think). How long do I put it for? I am not sure…I just did it at 60 minutes..hopefully, that’s enough. The machine didn’t make a sound…doesn’t it usually spin? It wasn’t moving…Maybe it’s heating it up inside..who knows..I went back upstairs and came back an hour or so later.

ONE HOUR LATER…

At this stage, I have finally got my clothes airer set up in my room, which takes a considerable amount of space when opened up. I go check on the clothes which I have put on the dryer and I also take the second bag of washing down in my new laundry bag..which I intended to put the “hopefully dried clothes” into. The handle on the dryer is broken…HOW DO I OPEN IT?! I struggle for a bit and maybe with sheer force I manage to open it. I feel the clothes..still a little damp..but I take it out anyways. So I empty a second lot of dirty clothes into the washing machine…BUT this time I choose the “FAST CLEAN” option…56 minutes. GREAT.

Go upstairs again, put out all my washing on my clothes airer and turn on my heating system to help dry the clothes.

ONE HOUR LATER…and I can’t remember what I did during this time..but after one hour has passed.

I went to check on the clothes.. DONE. Great. put it in the dryer more successfully than the last time I did it…and this time I turned it to the maximum time of like 2 hours and went upstairs…Put on some shoes and took my first walk around the neighbourhood…I saw a few colleges…and then walked into Monash University…so beautiful and modern! I wonder how it would feel like going to a university like that… hmmm…I found that there are some shops that are still open on campus! Saw their sports area, which hopefully I will be able to play badminton in once the restrictions are lifted. I took some photos which I will post at some stage when I have time…okay I have heaps of time but I am extremely lazy to upload pictures from my phone. :(…I walked past the Monash Uni Music Section and feel a teeny bit sad about the guitar I left back in Adelaide… Unfortunately I wasn’t able to fit that into my car :(. Stupid toilet paper. grr.

Come back home…pull out my yoga mat which I haven’t even touched since I moved to Melbourne…I opened the usual Blog Pilates Cardio and Stress yoga videos and do that for half an hour…the clothes STILl aren’t ready..so I open the freezer to see what I can add to my left-over failed fried rice from yesterday…A small packet of frozen dumplings falls out…It must be fate. It wasn’t fate sadly…I have no idea how to cook it…and being lazy I put it straight into the air fryer. AND YUP after 5 minutes you guessed it! The skin was burnt but it was still so cold inside the dumpling. I turned down the heat and put it for another 5 minutes. STILL COLD. So I took it out and just microwaved it for one minute…and I THINK IT WAS COOKED?!!? But the skin was really gross and chewy.. ..LOL but the food is food.

TWO HOURS PASSED…

I go check on the clothes…it’s pitch dark and borderline creepy in the outside laundry room…I forgot my phone..went back upstairs and grabbed my phone to be a torchlight…never want to experience that darkness again…I balance my phone somewhere so I can grab the clothes…the feel soo warm and DRY…so it takes two hours to dry a small load of clothes. OKAY… SO basically it took a really long time to wash my clothes which I had used in a few days…I just went back to count…SIX HOURS..WTF.

And anyway, this update was a bit boring…but yes I finally have a clothes airer, a nice looking (fake) wooden clock on the wall..containers for my sugar and nuts…and some pegs…which I honestly didn’t really need, but I will find a use for it.

On a more random side note, when I went to pick up my items from KMART, I decided to do a test-drive to the hospital I would be working at on my first day…and guess what…theres an IKEA store down the street! There’s actually a pretty big looking shopping complex there..DOH…I told myself, maybe IKEA doesn’t have click and connect…I drove a bit further and see a sign saying “IKEA CLICK AND COLLECT”..dAMMIT…oh well there’s still a heap of things I still need to buy…IKEA SHOPPING TIME >:D

The last week begins…

One week left in Adelaide.

Hmm. Times flies when you realise it is finite and not unlimited.

I had an adventurous week and I did a lot of things within then I normally would.

Caught up with old work colleagues, family, lots of badminton, gym…and even traveled to a few places I haven’t been before! I went to a small rural town about 2.5 hours drive away from Adelaide, called Port-Pirie. As I have a friend that is a pilot, we hired a small aircraft and flew there…I have never been in a small aircraft before and it was definitely a really exciting experience. I was so surprised that the landings and take offs were so much smoother and faster than I expected!

The view from up in the sky is amazing and despite having an awesome new phone camera, it doesn’t seem to do it justice. Somethings in life you just have to experience it first-hand yourself! We flew over the famous Pink Salt Lake, which kinda looked more brown than pink to me.. (It was my first time to see it)…

We had about 2.6 hours in the air…I even got to fly for a bit…While exciting at first..it is a bit more tiring than steering a car. Once we landed in Port-Pirie, we booked a cab to take us to town and we enjoyed some lunch at a place called Safavia . This is where we both tried something called a ‘Chicken Stack’…which is basically chicken with a quiche and some bacon stacked on top of it.

Post lunch we had a bit of a walk around town…there wasn’t a whole lot to do…but thee was a small museum, which looked deserted. We also walked passed a real estate sop and boy is it it a cheap!! You can get a 3 bedroom house with lots of land for well under 100,000k! To put that into perspective, a house of that size would easily be 6 or 7 times that amount in Metropolitan Adelaide.

We then walked around the railway and to a small jetty, took some photos…then it was time to head back to the aircraft in the cab.

I flew some more on the way back. It was a good experience.

Yesterday, I caught up with some old work mates in a place called Plant 4 Bowden- which as its name suggests, has many plants for sale…It also had many cool looking shops and little eateries. I wish I had discovered this little gem earlier! I have been living in Adelaide for so long, yet I have never been.

It’s funny how you only finally start to explore and enjoy somewhere when you know you are leaving.

Things to think about when renting a place

Looking for accommodation is such a headache. But honestly, I think the more headache now, the less headache later…Finding the (near) perfect place will make a life that is more comfortable and you aren’t stuck in a lease with terrible house mates.

I am not a big fan of share houses, but I have lived in one before (in Japan), which wasn’t too bad! But, this is Australia…Melbourne…I feel like I am not ready for sharing my life with others who love alcohol or partying…

I have come up with my own list of things that I want in a rental property:

-Own ensuite bathroom and shower…I like the ability to taking a shower when I want..and I don’t want to keep moving all my cosmetics and hair washing stuff every time.. LOL and I am scared of germs.

-No-Smoking!! Or drugs! Or alcoholics! I just can’t stand the smell of smoke, drugs, or alcohol.

-Not very sociable people please…I don’t want to be kept up by party animals. I need my beauty sleep.

-I don’t mind pets…I actually would love to live with a dog or cat…as long as they are toilet trained…don’t eat my stuff, and friendly …xD

-Clean people…people who clean up after themselves…I HATE cleaning up other people’s messes and sharing a place with someone dirty…eeek

-If in a share house, I def want my own lock on my door…because I don’t want to worry about people going into my room when I am not around.

-Private parking on-site (preferably) a bit worried about street parking…because apparently there is higher crime rate in Melbourne.

-Heating and cooling.. I am super sensitive to cold and hold temperatures..LOL

-Safe neighbourhood and low crime rate..I am willing to pay more to feel safe!!

-Shops nearby for easy access to groceries.

-Nice restaurants nearby for takeaway for those lazy days.

-Quiet street and not too many cars or near a railway/airport…etc.

-Furnished…please..I don’t really want to fork out all that money to buy furniture when I am renting and also not sure how long I will stay in Melbourne

-My budget is max $250 a week..LOL…I feel like I am going to be broke renting and living in Melbourne T_T

-Having public transport nearby would be handy if I don’t want to drive to the city etc.

-Nice friendly neighbours…

These are personally the things I want to look for in a share house…I have such high expectations..I think I am better to rent my own place. LOL.

How to be comfortable #forever alone

There are going to be times where you will be alone, whether driving to work, going on work vacations or if you don’t know anyone in a social situation…or even during Covid lockdowns. I think it is always useful to have something to do in case you have time to kill and don’t want to waste it.

1. Have a piece of technology with you at all times…most likely at least your phone…so you can use it to surf the internet, use social media, or write ideas for future blog posts…

2. Have a book to read…Whether a light novel, autobiography or whatever. It is perfectly acceptable to sit somewhere to read, you would less uncomfortable with a book than without. Can even read manga or ebooks from your phone like Webtoons! Or listen to books being read out loud on Audiobooks etc.

3. Have some good music to listen to. Emo music is great.

4. Get a pet. Dog, cat, fish, or turtle etc. Even plushie or bolster is fine. xD. Anything you can cuddle really….

5. Learn how to play an instrument..but don’t spend too much on your first instrument xD you can learn from Youtube videos.

6. Just learn to love yourself and to love the friends and family around you. You can do this with the help of Apps, self-health books, psychological services, or just spending time on yourself.

7. Maybe get a plant? But only if you can keep it alive, nothing is more depressing than a dead plant in the house :(.

8. Watch online streamers or even start streaming yourself! Maybe a good way to connect with other people or make new friends.

9. Get into the stock or share market!! Why not use all that spare time you have being single and grow your investment portfolio and become a bit more well off than you are now. Also look into your Super Fund and see if they are really growing your supperannuation for you or is it time to choose a different option for yourself.

10. Work out and get yourself the best body you can have! Go to the gym as much as you can, get fit, and get healthy..or play a sport, like badminton!! I guess this is good for making friends and socialising as such, if your area let’s you go back to indoor spoorts that is.

I am guessing the reality of these things I listed is because when you DO eventually get into a relationship, you most likely will have less time to yourself and to do what you want. Why not make the most of this single prime time and make it your time..

Work Addicted

I just spent like almost an hour researching something for someone I don’t know in another town, which has nothing to do with me and this is after I have had dinner and am at home. I think I have a problem switching off work.

I work in a mental health hospital dispensary, yet I get phone calls from around South Australia from people asking for advice about psychotropic medications. I would just like to clarify I am not a medication expert hot line, there are people who are paid simply to answer these medication information questions.

Yes, I might know a bit more about antipsychotics and other psychotropic medications than some pharmacists, but I am by no way close to a specialist of any kind in mental health.

When asked a question I don’t know, I get obsessed with trying to finding the answer and unfortunately there isn’t an answer as it was with this case.

I’ve just come off from 3 days of being on-call and being asked all sorts of questions that put me outside my comfort zone and made me think on my feet… So I guess an email about a question relating to long-acting anti-psychotics didn’t seem too bad at first. But unfortunately, I am not paid to just answer people’s questions all day and hence, I did it at home…not good, but at least I learnt a ton lot about antipyschotics!! Too bad it’s my last week at this mental health hospital.

Sometimes I wonder why I try so hard…

*lifts up glass of milk*. Cheers to new chapters.

Being ‘Oncall’

This weekend, it’s my first time being the Oncall pharmacist for a large hospital that I used to work for.. but since then I have been rotated to another site.@@. Trying to organise getting the on-call gear to get to me was a feat in itself. I don’t know much about booking couriers or who to contact about the on-call stuff. It was also a feat trying to test the laptop gear and make sure it was connected to the network at work before I took it home. I’ve never used VPN before and holy moly is it kinda cool…but super slow and the screen is TINYYY..

For me, the anxiety of thinking about being on-call seems like more of a nightmare than actually being on-call…so far anyway.

Yesterday I got one call so far asking for something that they should have ordered during business hours. Then today I received a call from an intern cover doctor asking about vancomycin dosing… @_@ which is so complicated and my first time looking into it.

I think personally, being on-call is literally taking the stress from work home with you and everywhere you go. Basically, you have to think about work 24/7 while on call. You never know when they will call and what they will call about. Every time you go out you have to bring all the stuff with you and be on alert for the dreaded beeps from the pager or the phone ringing. The pager went off during my shower today and my heart sank, I couldn’t even enjoy my shower… 😦

I woke up with a stiff and painful neck this morning 😦 I don’t think I got good sleep…worried that I would be called in the middle of the night…

So far I’ve been a bit disgusted with the bag. It’s sooo messy..stuff is just everywhere.. I bought some plastic ziplock bags to put the different chargers, internet dongle, and parking permit cards into. I have also replaced the screen cover of the iphone with a new tempered glass screen cover I had lying around (can I claim that on my tax?)..I also might clean up the folder a bit…and see if I have a spare notebook lying around. It just looks so unloved.

This is my oncall experience so far… tmoro will be another challenge! I am will still be on-call while I am working at my second job. Fingers crossed no-one contacts me during work….eek… Shall update on my endavours with more stories surely. Oh, and someone please remind me to put this on my resume, thanks.

Thank you Siri

It is it just me that has been honed to have good mannerisms, even when no one is around?

I feel bad when I don’t thank Siri after telling them to “Set a timer for 5 minutes”. I instinctively say, “Thank you”…because I feel like if I don’t, they won’t do it for me anymore. But, Siri isn’t even human…?!?!

WEIRD…

I also notice, I say “Excuse me” whenever I let out a manly burp or a sneeze, but no one is around. Why am I like this?!

My theory is that because I am at work so often, with so many other people…I just have become like what I am.

Is it a subconscious act?!!?

Does technology have feelings? >.<

Home style Pumpkin Soup

Ever since I was little, I’ve been addicted to pumpkin soup and I am not even sure why. Might be the salt in it…for some reason I am addicted to salty foods! At work, my colleague and I have a soup each day, with the exception of one day last week in which our kettle stopped working and also took half the pharmacy’s electricity along with it.

I’ve always just loved pumkin soup and whenever it was on sale and when it wasn’t-( esp during the Covid-19 stockpiling saga) I would always have enough soup on hand in my locker at work and in the kitchen in my corner to last me for days. I’ve tried other flavours of soup, but nothing really tasted as good as I thought pumpkin soup tasted. I tried chicken noodle curry, mush room, ham and pea, I just didn’t like the artificial taste in these other flavours. That’s until one day I swapped a pumpkin for my colleague’s DUTCH CURRY. Now every time I have an instant pumkin soup, I am craving a Dutch Curry. I am not sure how to describe a Dutch curry and I’ve never tried the real thing, but it really hits the spot you know?! It’s a little spicy, but not too spicy..and it has rice and peas in it! Just enough to allow me to last till lunch time. It’s super cold in Adelaide these days… hot soup is the best!

Suddenly I am no longer buying my pumpkin soup, but Dutch Curry.

I have changed so much this year. What’s happening to me?!!?

Credit Card Woes

I have had my credit card for less than a month..and oh BOY they really do a great job of trying to trap you to spend more than you earn. :(. I think I have spent more money in the last month than I have in this year so far…that’s terrible :(. But I guess, I try to reason with myself, these things are necessary…but are they really?

Did I really need to splurge on the newest iphone model, or could I have gotten a cheaper but older model? Did I really need to get that fancy epilator with 5 different ways to use? Did I really need to get my car serviced at TOYOTA when I could have done it way cheaper anywhere else?!!? As I think of my spending habits and question whether I am wasting money…I think it has made me rethink my choices. I understand why some people can max out their credit cards…it’s just so easy..Just pay wave this, pay wave that. You don’t see the money come out of your account straight away, so you think you can spend a bit more. It’s ADDICTIVE and you tell yourself, it’s okay…I can get points for every dollar I spend! You think about the long run about what you are saving up for. But are you really?!?! IF YOU ARE SPENDING MORE THAN YOU SAVE?

So many questions. But anyways, I have got my first statement from my credit card and I am pleased to say I have paid it off. But, this month’s bill is gonna be huge 😦 eeks.

Be careful guys, staying at home makes it so much easier to buy things online that we might not need!  Just rethink if you will regret the decision later.. >.<

Brand Loyalty

So today, I did a dumb thing. I accidentally dropped my non-water proof iphone 6 into the toilet…It was my first and hopefully  last time to do that. I freaked out..!! All the germs that must be on my phone! So I did the stupidest thing possible, I ran it under the tap to wash it. Then I tried to dry it with a towel, then I disinfected it with an antibacterial wipe. Yes, it’s probably clean, but also I have unknowingly (?) caused water damage to my phone. The screen is like all messed up, the touch ID finger print sensor doesn’t work anymore, and it permanently says I have headphone plugged in when I certainly do not. So basically I have a phone that you cannot hear from, cannot use touch ID, and has this white glow in the middle of the screen. Fingers crossed no one will call me in the next few days until I get my new phone.

So I bought a new iphone outright on a whim. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH HAVING A CREDIT CARD!!! I will write a separate post for that. Extra time to pay off my large purchases? Yes Please. 😦 . I have decided to upgrade to a iphone 11. Currently I have a SIX. Which is basically ancient and was dying before I dropped it in the water…So it was sort of good timing I GUESS. Why did I get a new iphone? I can’t explain it. I am not interested in other phones anymore…4 years ago I got my first iphone and have fallen deeply in love with it, then it spiraled out of control from there. After my first iphone, I got a second iphone 2 years later…then I splurged on a MAC BOOK AIR..and this year I got Apple airpods. What’s next?!?! Probably Apple Smart Watch when if and only IF my fitbit ever dies or I lose it again. It just makes sense to get another Apple product to complete my collection. I just love all my Apple products.. HECK if there was an Apple car … TAKE MY MONEY? Did I tell you I have the Apple sticker on my car, in my poor attempt to make it an apple car? Lame. I know. But this my friend, is BRAND LOYALTY.

It can start off subtle, when someone you know takes out their iphone and it’s SO SHINY and apparently the battery life is great! You compare it with your shitty android phone with bad battery, and think to yourself…Let’s try getting an iphone next time! THEN you are hooked. Probably hooked for life. It’s not just phones as well, it’s cars, vacuum cleaners, hair straighteners, clothes, skin products.  I think we as humans have just made brand loyalty as part of our DNA…and addiction, a habit…and it starts with those around us like our parents influencing us. I have a Toyota because my parents usually bought toyotas. My sister bought a GHD hair straightner, so I also bought one. I bought an iphone, then my mum and brother followed suit. Heck, we even make habits of even where we choose to cut our hair and hence because of Covid I haven’t had a hair cut in almost 10 months because my hairdresser isn’t open :(.

My point in all this is (if there is a point) to raise an awareness of our brand loyalty. Why are we so loyal to that brand? It most likely would be because of the product’s reliability and how durable or how well it functions. I trust Apple to always make a good quality, long lasting, and sleek looking devices. I know it may seem over-priced, but I rather spend a bit more on something I will really love using and look after, than something cheaper which I don’t love.

What brands are you addicted to?
