Day 2 Post Pfizer Covid Vaccine

It’s been about 36 hours after I received my first dose of the Pfizer Covid Vaccine. I have to say, I felt fine right after it.. no anaphylaxis, no pain, all was well. But progressively through out the day, the pain in my left arm (where I got it done), became more and more noticeable. Throughout the day, I began feeling more tired than usual and I was getting some difficulties breathing/coughing. I mean, I do have to say I have asthma and Hayfever, but I am not sure if it was due to the vaccine.. but I did notice this.

12 hours post vaccine I was noticing I was incredibly sleepy, tired, and fatigued, but at night I had RSVP’ed to badminton so I forced myself to go exercise, but the pain in my left arm was intense. I got home and couldn’t do much more, everything felt so hard and difficult to do.

I eventually got ready for bed, and that’s when I noticed the pain of my left arm, I could not sleep on my left side at all due to the pain

24 hours post vaccination, I woke up with a massive headache, almost like I was hungover or something… the whole body lethargic feeling was incredibly strong. I contemplated whether or not I should go to work, I was worried about falling asleep at the wheel or making mistakes at work. I decided i would call in sick and also let them know I had just received my first dose of the covid vaccine.

I was given an informational leaflet by the vaccination staff which had a QR code in which I could record side effects from the vaccine. I recorded exactly what I have just typed out above and also stated what treatments I have used to help with the symptoms.

After resting in bed for most of the day, I am feeling slightly better. I am taking 2x paracetamol regularly to help with the pain, body aches, and fevers. I am trying to keep very hydrated and to eat healthy.

Fingers crossed the worst is over! I have been told if my symptoms persist till tomorrow, I may need a covid swab to ensure I haven’t been exposed to the virus…

Covid Vaccine

This morning, I arrived an hour earlier to work to get my Covid-19 Vaccine… I wasn’t sure which one I would be getting, but when I arrived, I was given an information sheet as I waited to get thhe jab. It’s a momental day for me! We waited so long for this vaccine and finally it’s here!

Its been 3.5 hours since I got the jab, there was no immediate pain, but now my left arm feels a bit numb and weak… I am so glad it’s not my right arm. On the information sheet, we had a QR code which allows us to record any side effects we may have to the vaccine. We were then monitored by a nurse for 15 minutes post vaccination … and for me, it was straight back to work. As I am rotating to another hospital next week, I booked my next appointment on the 24th of March.

I will let you know if there’s anything weird or interesting about having the vaccine.

Communal Laundry

So the thing about having a communal laundry means..you can’t just do your laundry whenever and wherever you want. You gotta lift all your clothes down to the washing machine.. and then load multiple loads coz it’s sooo small. You then set your timer so that you know when to come and take it out of the machine. But for some reason, it always takes longer so you are just waiting around.

I just want to whinge lol. But i am getting better.. its 2 pm and I am down to my last load! Woo hoo

Things you don’t know until you move out

It’s almost been two weeks since I moved from my hometown, Adelaide, and made myself across the country to Melbourne. I’ve decided to make a list of things I didn’t/still don’t know since I have moved out…

  1. How to get rid of stains on your chopping board. Throw it away! JOKES, it doesn’t even belong to me. I have lots of orange stains from those stupid carrots I cut.. I looked on the wizarding website, Google about how to get rid of them..Apparently, a normal sponge (which a common man likes me owns) can’t get into those knives made cuts in the board, hence it gets stained… Apparently, bleach, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide will help get rid of the stains. All which I don’t own…and maybe I should get.
  2. Ice builds up in the freezer for no known reason. When this happens at home, I don’t really notice. But when you are living on your own, you question everything! This fridge came with the apartment I am renting, so it is quite old and NOT frost free like most new fridges sadly… I looked up Google and it doesn’t seem like there is an easy fix…it could mean that the fridge seals may not be working as well as they are supposed to hence the ice building up inside…I’ve just been picking the little ice off when it gets long enough..reminds me of a little winter wonderland…xD…
  3. How to clean a toilet. Properly. In my limited experience of cleaning toilets back in Adelaide…they were reduced to spraying and wiping the surfaces of the toilet back at church…and at home putting some bleach in the toilet bowl..flushing and using the brush to clean the outside lol. ew…and then letting it dry. Yups. Needless to say, not very clean. Luckily, there are lots of youtube videos showing the right and proper (?) way for a better clean toilet.
  4. GROCERIES. Sigh. I ‘ve mentioned it before…but it’s important to sort of figure out what you need and reduce the number of times you need to go to the groceries…is it urgent? if not, wait until the next grocery shop time! I guess ideally you should make a list of things that you might need every week, so you don’t forget.
  5. Different types of linen and bedding. Prior to moving out, I only knew of pillowcases, quilt covers…and the thing that goes on your mattress. Didn’t know the name of the thing that goes on your mattress…but the one at home always had elastic around it. I found out since then, that is called a fitted sheet…and the one that DOESN’T have an elastic is called a Flat Sheet. LIFE CHANGING! I was never able to find online what I wanted to buy because I didn’t know what they were called… I’ve also learnt the importance of mattress protectors…and did you know you were supposed to flip your mattress every month or so to even out the wear?!!? I will be honest with you, I have not done that once in my 29 years of life. I tried flipping the mattress that came with this apartment…saw the other side had this huge ass brown stain…maybe it was blood?!?! Murder?!?! OMG ?!?! I don’t know..and thought. NAH. I am good. I will just leave it on this side… It would be nice to buy my own new mattress.. hmmm…$$ though…
  6. Never knew what fabric softener was until I moved out. Never used it… apparently, it makes your clothes softer and easier to iron after a wash :O. So far, I haven’t ironed anything that I’ve washed since I got here..but we’ll find out after I start work tomorrow!
  7. Less is better than more. While cooking..always only add a little bit of seasoning, TEST TASTE IT. Then add a little more as needed… Being too confidence and adding wayyy too much at once (like I do) makes it overseasoned and you can’t really fix that…
  8. Never realised how dusty the floor surface gets. To be honest, back at home, I rarely checked the vacuum cleaner to see how much dusty I have picked up after a vacuum…But since I am living on my own with a small stick vacuum…I have to empty the small canister quite often…and BOY am I surprised at how much dust there is after each vacuum!! I suppose dust gets in from your shoes…from moving stuff around..and opening the windows. hanging clothes to air…DUST IS EVERYWHERE. I am dust produced. LOL.so very important to get a vacuum when you live on your own…so you can discover how disgusting of a place you live in!
  9. You don’t need a can opener. We always had one at home…but honestly, I can’t remember the last time I used one. I don’t know why I ran out to buy one in Melbourne… I don’t even have a need to use it!
  10. Recycling and being eco friendly can be fun. I have never been so crazy about recycling things until now…If it can save money and be useful…why not..! I can’t say I am pleased with all of my creations, but hey, some are coming in handy…Like my placemat, my stationery and pen containers, recycle bill, bin, mouse pad..

As I write this at 9:40am local time…I have already finished one load of washing and put a second one in…soon I will put the third lot in..! I am trying to get all the laundry out of the way as I probably won’t have time during the week to do it.. 😦

Wish me the best of luck tomorrow for my first day at work! I will be getting a Photo ID badge..I presume…so I gotta make sure I look good for my photo xD. After going into work in the morning for a bit, I believe the plan is those that live nearby to work (i.e. me) will go home and use their computers from home to continue the orientation/training modules. It’s my first time working from home officially! I don’t think being on call counts?

I am both excited and nervous about starting all over again…in a new workplace..with new rules..new procedures…it’s time to dump out what I have been taught before and learn new ways of doing things…new software…staff…management… and I don’t even know how to do my timesheet. LOL. -.-”

Will hopefully have energy to update tomorrow on the first day of work!

*edit i think i forgot to post this on Sunday*?)*

(P.S. took this photo and the cover photo on my walk yesterday…soo pretty!)

Adulting Milestones and fails

So, I spent the whole night yesterday on a wet mattress protector and hence I had a pretty uncomfortable sleep…My only quilt cover was not dry either..despite a whole day of being under the heater…my electricity bills gonna be so high :(. Gonna really try not to open the heater today.. :(. I was super mindful that I don’t want to sweat too much coz my quilt is gonna get dirty! So much stress TT. I have opened the windows and continue to dry the sheets and quilt cover on my makeshift clothes airer…

Next time, I think it will be ideal to not do all of them at the same time and do it in batches…coz,, yeah it doesn’t dry that well in the dryer..probably doesn’t get clean that much.

I’ve been trying to figure out how I can buy one week of groceries at one time. it seems so redundant that I have to make several trips to the stores in one week…and now with COVID, I am trying to do click and collect more often…however, I always seem to forget something…and then I have to wait till next time to get it..and by then I would have forgotten something else.

Other than that, I have officially almost spent an entire week living by myself and interacting with literally no one asides from the grocery unpacker when I click and collect. I am super cautious about those people too…lol…last time I did click and collect, they just left the product in a trolley and let me take it out myself. This time the kind man opened my boot and put it in bags for me in. Whilst that was very kind of him, he could have just left it there for me to pack…Because after that I had to sanitise my boot handle, bags, and everywhere he might have touched. 😦 You know..just in case.

BUT on a side note, I got for half price a set of 10 containers for only $12.50! WOOHOO. can’t wait to label them and fill them up with stuffs.. xD

Finally Officially Moved in!

I am typing this on my laptop with my super slow internet hotspotted from my phone…Other than the room being extremely cold, I am okay with it so far…I’ll see how my first night here goes.

For dinner tonight, I had some leftover Charsiu from my aunty, I microwaved some of that instant brown rice, air fried some frozen veggies (bad idea..the corn started exploding lol), and some french fries (also courtesy of my aunt). Everything except the rice and veggies was chucked into the airfryer. I added a touch of ketchup and mixed everything together and BAM that’s kind like fried rice with out frying it (unless the airfryer counts?). That my friends was the first meal I have cooked (?) in Melbourne on my own.

I also had my first shower which was freezing cold and I super regretted only bringing two towels with me…and they aren’t big towels either! Fingers crossed they will be dry for the next time I need to use them … I need more towels..lol.. I realise I barely have anything…but I am trying to improvise and make do with make-shift items. I have made a few temporary bings out of cardboard boxes…I have used a dish towel to be both a placemat and a temporary dish dryer. As I don’t have anything to line my drawers with, I have used paper towel to hold my cutlery and knives so they don’t move every time I open the drawer.

My aunt and uncle gave me an old table they had sitting outside so I have brought that back and set it up..they also gave me an old tv..but, unfortunately, it doesn’t work…LOL…Or I just don’t know how to set it up…:(

I had some trouble figuring out how to use the microwave and I thought it was broken…LOl but anyways I did end up eventually figuring it out…the sink also was missing something to stop the water from being drained, but I looked around and found something that fit to stop it…also sadly that hand held-vacuum that was here…I just realised it doesn’t run on batteries and needs a charger…WHICH THE PREVIOUS TENANT didn’t leave behind so basically it’s junk and I already have a draw for broken shit. -.- why don’t they get rid of the broken stuff?!? LAME.

Today I also bottled my kettle for the first time..good to know it works. I’ve also been using the airconditioner…jsut cos its soo cold…I am scared of my electricity bill though :(. Asides from not having enough clothes hangers to hang my clothes…I am pretty much unpacked!

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to explore a bit of the neighbourhood and get those supplies that I have been writing down in my phone…I need so many more cleaning supplies 😦 But where am I going to store it? I don’t have a laundry room sadly…

Day 2 Signing my first ever tenancy agreement

Wow…Today I signed my first every rental agreement… I sent it to my family members to have a read through..since I am not that great at reading the finer terms and conditions. I had to pay 1 months worth of rent as a Bond and this month rent upfront. I am feeling very poor at the moment :(.

I had to ask them to amend the first contract I received as they wanted me to pay $20/week for parking!! EEK. They hadn’t mentioned that prior to me signing the lease and they also wanted me to sign for a 12-month contract..however, I had asked if it could be shortened to 6 months, just in case I didn’t like it. After receiving confirmation that I was approved as a tenant, I went out shopping. Most retail shops would be closed from midnight tonight to the public, with an only online click and collect/online delivery options available.

I bought my first appliances for my room…an air fryer!! A kettle…a floor mat, a microwave cover, some cleaning appliances, a jug that filters water (the apartment doesn’t have filtered water); laundry detergent…and some toilet cleaner things you put inside the toilet to make it smell fresh. I felt like such an adult. Oh, I also bought some shampoo and conditioner, because I was too lazy to bring my half-used bottles from Adelaide LOL. I also bought some instant coffee sachets, as I did not bring that from Adelaide… :(. Needless to say, my small car is not overflowing with things…and I have a feeling it will be struggling on its way to my new place tomorrow. Oh, by the way, I also saw 3 policemen patrolling the shopping centre…I guess making sure we are all wearing facemasks when out. It’s a strange time we live in.

As my new apartment does not have Wifi included, I have somewhat hastily signed up for a Telstra Mobile Broadbank sim card plan, enticed by the $10 discount for the first 12 months. It said it can take 7-10 days for shipping! hopefully it comes before I start work…I have been told that we may be spending the first week of orientation mostly at home….due to Covid we can’t do the training face to face… so I will need a secure and strong internet connection at my new place…I don’t want to rely on or waste my phone’s data for those future conference calls and endless training modules. I haven’t really worked from home much, with the exception of the on-call stuff I did for my last job…should be exciting…and somewhat a little weird too.

Oh well, more on that when I get there!

I just realised today that they have set me up with an work email, which I haven’t checked for the last few weeks..and eek so many emails to sift through.

Not all heroes wear capes..some are Masks

I have spent the last few days continuing to pack a little by little… some sports tops, some socks, some undergarments…and yeah the rest I might still have to use…

One thing my relatives in Melbourne have been harping on about is FACE MASKS!!!! It is now mandatory for everyone in Melbourne to wear a facemask when they go out. So, of course, there is a mask shortage in Melbourne now… Workers in hospitals, I believe also need to wear facemasks when talking to patients.

The power of facemasks to prevent community transmission of Covid-19 has been proven and effective. This small piece of cloth is able to lessen the possibility of the spread of the virus. Who knew that the humble facemask would be so widely used outside the hospital.

My mother for some reason had bought a whole of reusable cloth masks from China to use when my parents are delivering papers…who knew they would become so useful now! Wearing the resuable mask is a lot more comfortable than the surgical masks, however, whether or not they work as well is pretty questionable…

Apartment Hunting

Just spent the whole morning working on my rental applications .. sigh

I never knew it would be so hard..baha you are literally feels like you are going for a job interview all over again..but even tougher! You have to provide professional, work, and character references…And also write why you want the apartment ..LOL..

I am trying to decide whether its worth paying almost. $50 a week for a fully furnished apartment or do I want to use that $50 a week and buy my own furniture?! But what if I move?  How am I going to take all my shit with me? Meh.

Well I’ve submitted two rental applications so far…and I haven’t heard back from them yet.  I haven’t inspected the properties of course, but some require you to apply before they allow you to inspect…! Thanks to Covid-19 restrictions they are only allowed to have one person inspecting the property at a time…no more open inspections 😦

Because I am looking to find my own 1-bedroom apartment, I guess I will be a loner in Melbourne lol. Housemates do sound fun…but I am worried I won’t get along with them..and I am such an introvert lol.

Who knows,,,maybe if I make some friends I can move out with them .. ?

Packing

Two weeks to D-day/drive to Melbourne day. I can’t believe I am leaving. It’s always been everyone else leaving me..and this time I am leaving?!! Strange.

I just started packing..TBH I am kinda cleaning and clearing out old junk more than packing. So much dust everywhere and so much non-used stuff.. so sad.

I am so glad I did the Marie-Kondo style clean out of my room last year..it makes it a lot easier to pick what clothes I want to take to Melbourne. I am surprised that actually there isn’t a lot that will end up going with me…But yeah I never got around to the rest of the house…partly because a lot of the stuff isn’t mine so I don’t want to chuck away other people’s stuff. But today, I was like F it. I am just going to clear the bathroom of old unused stuffs and free samples and hotel stuffs etc. SUPER dusty man..

As I pack everything I think I need into my suitcase..It seems surreal that all my belongings that I want to take…seem like so little in the grand scheme of things.

People say I have guts and so brave to go to Melbourne by myself and during this Covid-19 wave.. brave…or just stupid?

Whatever it is..it’s happening.

My uni friends got me this label maker as a farewell gift.. I have already packed into my suitcase.

61683966693__DD2BBD83-5F75-41E7-BC69-F1BC7687D0AA

I just had a look online though, the labels themselves are ridiciously expensive.. .XD I have gotten myself into a trap…-.-;

Super excited tio use this in Melb though!

Will I miss Adelaide?

I have been thinking lately…this might be the last time I go here, do this, see this person. Is the only way I will miss Adelaide is by leaving?

I took a good long look at my backyard and I remembered all the memories that I have had in my childhood…it feels really surreal that I am leaving soon.

I will miss playing badminton with my friends for sure. I am scared and afraid of trying to make new friends in a new city :(.

I am going to have to learn how to cook for myself. Eek…I hope that I won’t starve…

I am going to miss eating out in Adelaide, especially eating out..gymming…since Melbourne is locked down at the moment due to Covid.

I am big big girl in a big big world

There was this song that my sister and I liked when we were younger called “I am a big big girl in a big big world”...and that’s how I am feeling right now.

I am just staring at the word BIG and it looks so weird. lol.

I just got a call from the interstate job I had an interview and I got told that they would like to offer the position to me- as long as I pass my police clearance and working with children checks etc.. !!

Exciting news…It hasn’t even sunk in yet and I am already stressing about how I am going to move myself and all my shit down to Melbourne…

Speaking of Melbourne, it is currently the Covid-19 hotspot in Australia…it seems like we have a smaller but surely a second surge of cases in Melbourne. There are currently some areas in which there are higher numbers of Covid Cases in Melbourne that are under lockdown, while the rest are free to roam with restrictions.

Adelaide, however is back to normal ..almost. There are still some restrictions, but at least most things are open already.

There are so many things to think about in the move..where will I stay, how will I get there, should I bring my car? WHERE WILL I PLAY BADMINTON?!

But anyway, I will worry about that more tomorrow.

Being able to Eat out again

Don’t mean to brag or anything, but in South Australia, as I have mentioned before, things are almost back to normal. For the first time since forever, I dined in at an actual restaurant and had table service and all! The food was the best I have had this year, hands down. Maybe, it’s because all I have been having is takeaway and food court style foods…it’s the small things in life you didn’t know you will miss until it’s gone.

Shopping centres are open once again and it was filled to the brim with people. Sure, there was still reminders to social distance in the shops and on escalators. But it is hard to do when there is soo many people around. We still aren’t allowed to dine in at the food courts, so they have banned people from sitting on the tables and chairs, however there were groups of people sitting and eating on the floor….I think that’s even more unhygienic…but yeah.. lol… Who would imagined that Australians would be sitting on the floor of a food court eating?!?!

As there is still a limit to how many people can dine in at a restaurant, my friends and I put our name and number down at the restaurant we wanted to go to and walked around the shopping centre until they called us to say the table was ready.

Felt like a century ago since we were able to meet up, eat together, and shop together.

Super grateful.

Trump the Trouble Maker

I am sure many of you will agree with me, if you heard anything that came out of Donald Trump mouth during Covid-19, it would be pure trash.

His recent statement about him taking hydroxychloroquine , a drug that was used to treat Malaria and now primarily for Rheumatoid Arthritis. His reasoning was that he believes it can ward off or prevent Coronavirus… Despite clinical trials still not proving this as effective, he decides to go against medical advice and to take it and to tell that to the public. I can only imagine how many people are going to follow in his footsteps and get their hands on some hydroxychloroquine and how many additional medication misadventures may happen as a result.

My question is, how did he even get his hands on some hydroxychloroquine? I am presuming in America you would still need a prescription for something like that? Shame on the doctor and the pharmacist that is providing that for him, especially for a off-label use that hasn’t even been shown to be effective. In my humble opinion, the benefits do not outweigh the risks for him to take it. It’s not even like Trump is on the front line (i.e. Health care worker) or has a high chance of being exposed to the virus. I dislike the way that he has basically contradicts whatever the advice from his advisers. Who put this clown in charge of America? Yes, he would make a great comedian, but NO he does not make a great president.

I wish someone would ban him from making any public statements, because everything he says is a joke. Sadly, some people take him seriously and have been seriously harmed.

God Bless America and May you get a real President soon 😦 (Just looked it up, next election seems to be on 3rd of Nov…Good luck until then)

The Covid-19 Apocalypse

This Covid-19 has allowed our minds to run wild and to jump to many of us having irrational thoughts and behaviors. Once the pandemic dies down, I can already imagine all the films and movies that will be made about this Pandemic that took over the world. I’ve been thinking my pitch for a science-fiction documentary titled the “The Covid-19 Apocalypse“.

It’s December 2019, while most of the world are celebrating the festive Christmas season and spending time with their loved ones, people in Wuhan, China are fearing for their lives. A strange new virus, now known as the Covid-19 has been sweeping through the Wuhan and leaving countless of people to die. The virus can be spread even if people are asymptomatic, leaving people to fear for their lives when among other people. There is currently no cure or treatment for this virus and the virus does not pick or choose who it will infect. At this stage, the virus gets very little coverage and it seems like its a virus only affecting this location in China at the moment, the world is not ready for what is to come. Little do they know, that this virus originating from one province in China, will soon be spread to every country in the world and lead to the what I call the Covid-19 Apocalypse.

….

It’s March 2020, in Adelaide, South Australia. The city is still in lock down and boy has my life changed. The message from the leader of Australia is clear, “STAY AT HOME” ,”WASH YOUR HANDS”, and “GET TESTED IF YOU SHOW ANY SYMPTOMS OF THE VIRUS”. Gone are the handshakes, hugs, kisses, any type of physical affection is banned. Restaurants are closed, any type of entertainment places are closed, universities and schools are closed, basically this town is a ghost town. It is almost like there an apocalypse going on, WAIT, just let me look up the definition of apocalypse, I think this DOES count as an apocalypse. The people more anxious have already hoarded all the toilet paper from the super markets, canned food, hand sanitisers, soups, flour, eggs, there is global medication shortages…people are believing, this is it. This is the end of the world. Panic and anxiety is wide-spread, people showing their true colours…Some are selfish only thinking of themselves and their family, others show kindness even among their own hardships and difficulties. How long will this last for? How long can we last not seeing our loved ones? How long will the mental health state for those isolated be able to handle this? When will this all end?

….
