Green is my favourite colour

If you asked my friends and family what my favourite colour was… I suspect they would say.. Pink. Why? Because I own so many pink things. But, the thing many of these things were gifts from people thinking I liked pink and further spreading the rumours. So much so, I subconsciously started buying pink things.

But today, on my daily walk during lockdown. I looked at my green phone case and my green jacket, and the beautiful greenery around me… and I thought to myself. Green is beautiful, green is the colour for me. Green symbolises life. It also is the colour of matcha 😌..

Do you have a reason why you have a favourite colour?

Bucket list for 2021

I have started reading a webtoon all about bucket lists…but I realised I never seem to keep track or remember what I put down…

So my list for the remainder of 2021 is to:

-Take classes to learn a new instrument! Recently I have taken an interest in the Japanese harp-like instrument, the koto…I have enquired about classes.

-Play a new sport! The only sports I play now is Badminton…and I guess when you are super comfortable with a sport, you might not want to try other sports.. well for me anyways. After asking my friends, I found out a colleague who plays table tennis and have contacts/places to play….

Work on my personality, in particular-to treat everyone like a friend. Not a close friend, but like a friend. A recent random encounter with a rude person, made me reflect on what kind of person I am and what others may perceive I am. But, like someone once said, you never know who you are being rude too.

Travel somewhere I’ve never been to before. This one, I kinda have done on my own to Phillip Island and hopefully I will make my way up to the snow this year??

Assertiveness. I am always saying yes, to the point I get angry and grumpy about it. I overthink too much about what others may think of me. I am going to practice saying no, and I’ll start with small steps and saying now to people wanting to steal my weekend shifts 😒😒😒…I need the money too!!!

Be a better friend to my existing friends. Being there for them, spending time to catch up with them, and overall just strengthening existing friendships. Both in Adelaide and Melbourne.

A decision on a house….!! By the end of this year …hoping to either.

1. Have a mortgage and living in a house/apartment in Melbourne / have saved up 100k by end of 2021 for a deposit

2. Investment property in Adelaide

3. Moved out to a bigger place that allows pets/own furniture

I think this is all that comes into mind at 11pm on a Weeknight. Have you made a bucketlist for yourself?

Winter Wonderings

Winter started off so wonderful, a new flame to provide warmth and shelter

Everything seemed bring and new

It was a first for everything and every moment was magical

But with every delicate flower that blossomed within that new budding love

…There was a risk for it to be crushed

It cannot withstand the howling wind, rain, and storms that it brought

With that the glimmer of warmth of winter was gone .. and once again…

The nights feel cold once again, and once again you realise you are truly, truly, all alone

First time getting Covid Swabbed

So, I’ve been bed ridden and house bound for the last few days. Yesterday, I was finally feeling well enough to get out of bed and get myself Covid tested. Given the circumstances we are currently in in Melbourne with cases literally popping up everywhere and anywhere, I thought it would be better to be safe than sorry.

I decided to opt for the drive through testing clinic nearby my house. No referral or booking was needed before hand. I went pretty early in the morning in the hopes to avoid the long waiting times.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought, it took about 30 minutes from start to finish. There was many questions asked, “have you been interstate? Overseas? In close contact with someone who has covid? Etc etc” and I answered literally no to all of them..they also ask if you have been immunised and if you were a health care worker, which I said yes to both.

The swab itself, wasn’t painful but I wouldn’t say its pleasant either. They first swabbed the back of my throat then each nostril with the SAME SWAB. Not sure if that’s that they normally do? I was just thinking of all the cross contamination with particles from my mouth going to my nose?!?!?

After the test i had to drink water to try get rid of that gross sensation in the nose and throat.

I clicked on the link about what to do post testing and it said I had to quarantine until I got s negative result and that it would take 1-2 days before I got results! Sounded pretty slow to me, but I was sick anyways.

I got the results about 14 hours after getting tested, the results were sent as a text message to me at approximately 11pm at night.

Hurray for a negative result! But sadly, I am still sick. 😦 but at least it’s not covid ?

Not all heroes wear capes..some are Masks

I have spent the last few days continuing to pack a little by little… some sports tops, some socks, some undergarments…and yeah the rest I might still have to use…

One thing my relatives in Melbourne have been harping on about is FACE MASKS!!!! It is now mandatory for everyone in Melbourne to wear a facemask when they go out. So, of course, there is a mask shortage in Melbourne now… Workers in hospitals, I believe also need to wear facemasks when talking to patients.

The power of facemasks to prevent community transmission of Covid-19 has been proven and effective. This small piece of cloth is able to lessen the possibility of the spread of the virus. Who knew that the humble facemask would be so widely used outside the hospital.

My mother for some reason had bought a whole of reusable cloth masks from China to use when my parents are delivering papers…who knew they would become so useful now! Wearing the resuable mask is a lot more comfortable than the surgical masks, however, whether or not they work as well is pretty questionable…

Quiet Before the Storm

After six months of working 6-7 days a week. Suddenly I am back to one day a week.

Scary. What should I do with all this spare time?

Of course I need to job hunt and keep doing interviews.

But, still so much time.

So I have a few things I am thinking to work on or do during this time.

  1. Being able to cook edible, easy, and semi-healthy meals for myself.
  2. Make sure I am up to date with my CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points for this year! We need to complete 40 CPD points as a year as a pharmacist.
  3. Aim to update daily with quality on this blog! This will include scheduled and unscheduled posts.
  4. Start doing recorded live interviews for my (almost forgotten) podcast! I have a few ideas of regular everyday people that I want to interview for my podcast.
  5. Work out 4 times a week and lose that post-covid 19 fat T_T!!
  6. Catch up with my nephew, sister, aunty, and uncle!
  7. Try to grow something. Flowers, cucumber, Carrot. Anything. Except mold. No Mold please.
  8. Think and plan my goals for the rest of the year and next year. I.e. financial goals, Shares goals, and etc.
  9. Finally have some time to clear out the junk in the kitchen, bathroom, and do I even want to touch the living room?!
  10. Get in some solid restful sleep.  CHILLAX. Destress and hopefully my resting heart rate will go back down to ~60  instead of the 72 it is now 😦

Here’s hoping that I will make the most of the time I have between now and my next job… 🙂

Nothing Beats the Original

Technology has kept us together during this pandemic, but no matter how technologically advanced technology can become…it still doesn’t beat real life. For the first time since forever, we had my Aunt and Uncle over at the same time as my sister and my immediate family. Nothing beats having a meal together with loved ones…We can video chat all we want, but it is so hard to give your undivided attention in a video chat. It just didn’t feel the same. Eating the same food is just more enjoyable when it’s shared with people whose company you enjoy.

This pandemic has really emphasized how important and how much I enjoy the same family gatherings. Because my Uncle is originally from England, my aunt and uncle spend half the year in Adelaide and the other half in England. Normally at this time of the year, they would be overseas in London during this time of the year, so it is nice to have them around to celebrate their birthdays.

On a side note, to minimise the risk of transmission of germs, we all had disposable plates, cutlery, and cups to use and we also didn’t sit too close to my Aunt and Uncle, to make sure we are still abiding by the rules of social distancing. . Not good for the environment, but good for me since I was responsible for cleaning up the mess after the party! Can’t say I had missed that…

Social Wealth

Whose place is it to determine someone’s worth in society?

Does it rely on age, gender, race, or other physical attributes? Just because someone is physically not as able to move around, does not mean they cannot contribute to society. Just look at Stephen Hawking And Nick Vujoic.

Society looks at a homeless person in the street and decides they are not worth much. However, they may be the mother of two beautiful children who have become a front line worker, they may be the beloved sister in her family. They were a precious child of their adoring parents.

Just because someone hasn’t finished school or gone to University doesn’t mean they cannot go on to do great things, look at the creator of Facebook who never finished his college degree. Just because you didn’t get a head start in life and be born into a rich family, doesn’t mean that you can’t make that a goal for yourself. Just because you didn’t grow up in a family of doctor, doesn’t mean you can’t pursue that profession for yourself.

Who is to judge whether one profession or the other has more prestige or power? Just because a cleaner isn’t getting paid as much as a top surgeon, doesn’t mean that they are any less important. There are so many important people in the world that are looked down upon and shunned in society.

I am not even sure what exactly the point I was trying to make was, but does and should your bank income and your job title determine your social status? Going through credit checks for  mortgages and credit cards, they ask how much you earn, how much you spend, and they are interested in what suburb you live in. We are reduced to a number of facts and figures and we are judged on that. It’s a strange society that we live in. It doesn’t matter if you are a reliable and honest person, if your numbers and statistics doesn’t reflect it.

Pandemic Ponderings

Just reflecting on how life is changing in the last few days have made me realise how much I have changed during this pandemic. Prior to the pandemic which led to a toilet paper shortage in Australia, I have never tried using a flushable toilet wipe. I have always been a plain jane toilet paper user…I am not even game to use those fancy bidet toilets in Japan…I’ve just been a big toilet paper fan (till now). However, this pandemic has made me discover the wonders and the satisfaction of using a flushable wipe, especially after a heavy meal (if you know you know).

Since toilet paper has been back on shelves, for some ODD REASON I can’t find the flushable wipes as easily in the supermarkets anymore! I am hooked! But, obviously, the supermarket may have decreased buying the wipes since toilet paper is back. Instead of the toilet paper hunt, I am not hunting for these sacred flushable wipes. Oh so expensive, but as it says on the box, ‘Leaves you feeling Shower-Fresh’. If you haven’t tried it before, you really should get your hands on some and then you will understand what I mean. Contrary to some people’s fears, I don’t believe they block the toilet drain, I could be wrong but they are supposed to ‘disperse’ in water somehow.

Another pondering that I have, is whether or not I still need my gym membership!?! I have my own yoga mat now and I have cleared out enough space in my room to do exercise AND cleared enough photos from my mirror to be able to see through it. It’s so comfortable and easy to work out from home with Blogpilates or some other Youtube Instructor… I feel like life is going to start changing back to how it was and I feel like it will take time to adjust to ANOTHER new normal again…

Though I miss seeing my friends at badminton gatherings, to be honest. Not much has changed, I didn’t go out much before and I don’t go out now. BUT I guess during the pandemic, there is less FOMO for me because everyone else is staying in too. HAHA? In a way, it’s a plus.

I am going to be taking my first exam online through a Proctor Website which is going to be exciting and scary…but a new experience none the less.

I have also confirmed that indeed my thumb is not green and is probably black. The seedling that I planted in my front garden, has not been able to sprout! I think it possibly has died!?!?  Ohwell, at least I tried. A for Effort.

I have learnt that there are many more shops I can avoid going into, by shopping online and taking advantage of their FREE SHIPPING!! Many websites have lowered minimum buy to qualify for free shipping!! I just feel like it saves a lot of time, rather than going into a shop and realising they don’t have what you want..!

I’ve also had a few phone calls from the GP instead of proper face to face meetings and I actually don’t find it too bad! It can be a bit awkward with the unexplained sudden silences, but it is much more convenient for someone as time-poor as me.

These are the things I have learnt and experienced for the first time during Covid-19, how has your life changed?
